Sting and Paul Simon Kick Off Joint Concert Tour

Sting in concert

Back in November 2013, both Sting and Paul Simon announced they will be embarking on a joint tour beginning in February, 2014. The tour will start out at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas and will continue through February and March with a total of twenty tour dates. They will appear at the Madison Square Garden in New York for two nights on March 3 and 4th. The tour will take them to a few large cities in Canada; Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto.

The Sting and Paul Simon concert tour is dubbed ‘Paul Simon and Sting: On Stage Together’ and fans are eagerly waiting this much anticipated concert.

Sting’s most recent album, his eleventh, ‘The Last Ship‘, is also a musical which will open in June of 2014 in Chicago. The musical is a story about the demise of the shipbuilding industry in the eighties Newcastle.

Paul Simon, the second half of the original duo, Simon & Garfunkel, is one of the most highly acclaimed musicians in the industry. His last album, ‘So Beautiful or So What’ released April 8, 2011, was his highest debut album on the charts, selling over 68,000 copies in the first week and debut at number 4 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

The pair played together at the Robin Hood Foundation benefit back in May of 2013 and at that time found that they were pretty interesting on stage together, and at that point considered a joint tour.

Harlem Globetrotters On The Road Again

Harlem Globetrotters

Well, it’s almost that time of year again for the talented acrobatic basketball troupe, the Harlem Globetrotters to begin their annual global tour. News is that Herschend Family Entertainment, which is a private group, has agreed to purchase the troupe from the Shamrock Capital Advisors.

The Globetrotters were founded in 1926 and at that time were known as the Savoy Big Five. The team employed different novelty acts like One-armed Boid Buie and Showboat (Robert Hall) and on occasion defeated some professional teams in exhibition games. Among the five honored players that have retired their numbers are Wilt Chamberlain #13, Marques Haynes #20, Meadowlark Lemon #36, Reece “Goose” Tatum #50 and the most recent member is Fred “Curly” Neal #22. on Feb. 15, 2008.

This year’s Globetrotters team roster includes players like Ant, who was the first pick; Big Easy, who shares his nickname with his home town of New Orleans; Bones, who started playing at age 11, Buckets, who’s from a family of 9 brothers and sisters; Bull, who collects tube socks; Cheese, who captained both his high school and college team; Dizzy, who went to his first Harlem Globetrotters game at age eight and went home and started practicing; Firefly, who led his college team through an NCAA tourney; Flight Time, who was in the top four of the TV reality show ‘Amazing Race’; and Moose who is a rookie, just to mention a few.

The Harlem Globetrotters season will be kicking off on December 26, 2013 in Columbus, OH. One of the featured cities will include two appearances in Los Angeles, CA on February 16, 2014. The shows in LA will be at 12:45pm and 5:45pm. Having more than one traveling team, they are able to perform more than 400 live events each year. They will appear in cities all over the United States and a few cities in Canada throughout the months of December, January, February, March and April ending on April 13, 2014 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, ON and one at the AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, MN.

Ibiza Closing Parties

Amnesia

The clubbing season may be coming to an end but there are still a few gems to look forward to. Here Catherine from Direct Travel takes you through what’s left to do in Ibiza.

Pop Stars & EsPuma Closing Party, Amnesia – 14 September
With space from 7,000 clubbers this party is sure to be massive. Here you will find host Brian Cross and a great selection of talent from both the pop and electronic world. In addition to Brain Cross on The Terrace you will find INNA, Dj Nano, Albert Neve, Lorena de Tena, Manuel Moore and Marien Novi. In the Main Room you’ll find the infamous Espuma foam party along with what promises to be a really exceptional set from Les Schmitz and Caal Smile. This foamy musical spectacular encapsulates everything that you could want from an Ibiza closing party.

We Love Closing Party, Space – 29 September
Fresh from his superb DJ set at Bestival Fatboy Slim returns to the island to drop some hot beats at Space. Also to look forward to at Space on 29th are sets by this season’s resident DJs Ryan O Gorman and Jem Haynes.
Check out Discoteca which welcomes live performances from Machinedrum and Simian Mobile Disco who join the already solid line up which includes Marc Roberts James Zabiela, Blawan, Paul Woolford and Agoria.

Wisdom of the Glove Closing Party, Pacha – 02 October
This night is new to Ibiza this season but has proved a hit because the beats are so hip. This season’s closing party is sure to be a massive climax to this night. The promoters have managed to wrangle Guy Gerber who will deliver some lovely songs.

F*** Me I’m Famous , Pacha – 03 October
This Thursday night party has been one of the most popular parties this season. David Guetta and his wife Cathy Guetta will be playing some songs. If you love club music this is definitely one of THE parties to try to go to. Be aware however that you need to be on the ball tickets as they normally sell out on the day. They are also some of the most expensive but for this night of heavy madness its definitely worth it.

Amnesia Closing Party, Amnesia – 05 October
Although this party starts on Saturday don’t be surprised to find yourself dancing your way into Sunday evening. Amnesia will be one of Ibiza’s biggest closing parties and really starts to kick off at 6AM. This will be absolutely mental. So far Marco Carola, Maceo Plex, Matthias Tanzmann, Steve Lawler, Eats Everything, Mar-T, Neverdogs, Cuartero, Les Schmitz and Caal Smile have all been announced.

Sankeys Closing Party, Sankeys – 08 October
The last major closing party of the season and perhaps to be expected Sankeys has decided to throw a really wacky party. This year they have decided to stage a world record attempt by hosting the world’s largest toga party ever recorded. The Roman theme ties in well with the associations of excess and hedonism which are sure to be present at this 24 electronic music marathon.

America’s Got Talent Leaves 6 Contestants Remaining

Image

Well, after watching the finale of America’s Got Talent Show on Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, 2013,  I think that America got it right! Actually, every performance at the finale was very good, which really made it hard to decide who to vote for. The remaining final six contestants were Forte, Taylor Williamson, Collins Key, Cami Bradley, Kinechi Ebina and Jimmy Rose. Forte, the opera trio, gave me goosebumps. Excellent performances from these three men who actually just met not long ago. Hilarious comedian Taylor Williamson just kept everyone laughing throughout the night by including the judges in his humor. Magician Collins Key was amazing, especially being just 17 years old, keeping the audience glued to his performance! Cami Bradley gave a stellar performance for both her songs taking an ordinary song like ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ and making it her own. Dancer/artist Kinechi Ebina was fantastic and has such original and unique talent. Jimmy Rose, the country singer, was the only performance that I really wasn’t thrilled with. I was surprised and disappointed that he was in the top three. I found that the other contestants had much better performances, but thats why there is a vote from all of America! In the end, Kinechi Ebina was the winner of $1 million and will prepare to headline his own show in Las Vegas. The other contestants placed as follows, with Taylor Williamson second, Jimmy Rose third, Forte fourth, Collins Key fifth and Cami Bradley sixth.

Florida Georgia Line Concert Reviews have been mixed for the young Band

Image

Florida Georgia Line has become one of the hottest bands in country music. The Country Duo of Brian Kelly and Tyler Hubbard have been touring the united states for the past few months and you might be surprised at the feedback some fans have been giving from the shows.

While some fans are enjoying the Bruno Mars covers, guest appearances by Rapper Nelly, and old school 90’s cover songs during the FGL (Florida Georgia Line) concerts, others are not as accepting to this new evolution of country concert. The more traditional country fans have ripped FGL on message boards and Facebook threads all over the country. They have found it to be an insult to country music. Below are some reviews and threads that have been posted from around the web.

When they played their own stuff it was great, but they played a lot of not-country covers (Bruno Mars, Akon, Nelly, etc.). I don’t wanna hear that at an FGL concert.

Hands down the best concert I have gone to. This is a great upcoming band, colt ford did a great job

The more shocking, and yet not surprising, part of the chatter around the FGL concerts has been the bands guest appearance by rapper Nelly. The Facebook Comment boards posted on a Tasteofcountry.com article has shown tremendous amounts of backlash toward the band. Stemmed from what appears to be blatant racism and a fear of losing their traditional country values, these “fans” have made it known that they do not support FGL in their decisions. One individual went as far as to say “This is why I cant stand these jerks!”
So, is a Florida Georgia Line Concert right for you? I guess that all depends on how you feel about the bands new style and direction it is taking with its country music.

Bon Jovi @ MetLife Stadium

Bon Jovi - MetLife

Even with the absence of Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi and company gave it their all at MetLife Stadium on July 25th. His home state crowd was rocking and rolling for the full 2 and a half hours. Expectations were sort of low knowing Bon Jovi was missing Sambora (and the fact that most people have been to about a thousand Bon Jovi concerts by now). But it was very impressive how we and the crowd were always occupied with great sounds and lots of action. There were a couple songs that sounded sort of generic, with the old “heys and “yays”, but overall it was a super concert. BJ was great!!!

Set list:
That’s What the Water Made Me – You Give Love a Bad Name – Raise Your Hands – Born to Be My Baby – Lost Highway – Whole Lot of Leavin’ – It’s My Life – Because we Can – What About Now – We Got It Goin’ On – Keep the Faith – Make a Memory – Bed of Roses – Captain Crash & the Beauty Queen From Mars – We Weren’t Born to Follow
- Who Says You Can’t Go Home – I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead – Bad Medicine

Encore:
Runaway – Wanted Dead or Alive – Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night – Have a Nice Day – Livin’ on a Prayer

Second encore:
Always – These Days
